Setup, step by step

Five steps. About a minute.

Click a step to see exactly what you’ll see. Screens are illustrative — your Claude client may look slightly different.

STEP 1 OF 5 · ILLUSTRATIVE SCREEN
Open Claude’s connector settings

In Claude, go to Settings, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.

STEP 2 OF 5 · ILLUSTRATIVE SCREEN
Paste the link and name it

Paste the link and call it “Community Pulse”. Leave every OAuth field — Client ID and Client Secret — blank: Claude registers the connection itself, so there’s nothing correct to put in them.

STEP 3 OF 5 · ILLUSTRATIVE SCREEN
Turn it on for your chat

Some clients enable a new connector automatically; others need it switched on from the + menu inside the conversation. Check there first if a question doesn’t seem to reach it.

Sign in with your own account

The first question sends you to this site’s sign-in page, separate from your Claude account. Everyone on your team gets their own — new accounts start on the Free plan, no card required.

Ask a real question

Try one of the questions below, or ask about your own district. A working answer names the dataset and period it came from.

How many people work in manufacturing in the Waikato region?
C
24,800 filled jobs in manufacturing across the Waikato Region.
Source: Employment by IndustryUnit: filled jobsPeriod: year to Feb 2025

Step 1 of 5
Your first question

Try one of these.

Click to copy, then paste it into Claude. Or just ask about your own district.

How many people work in manufacturing in the Waikato region?
Has GDP grown faster in Hamilton City, or the region as a whole?
Where are road crashes most concentrated on our network?
Is recorded crime up or down in our district this year?
Compare jobs and GDP between Tauranga and Hamilton.
Show me filled jobs by district on a map.
Troubleshooting

If something doesn’t work.

The six things people run into most — and the fix for each.

Check the link is exactly https://ai.datandashboards.com/mcp — nothing before or after /mcp. An extra slash is the usual reason a connector won’t add.
Leave every OAuth field blank. Claude registers the connection itself, so there’s nothing correct to put in them.

That’s expected. Community Pulse has its own sign-in, separate from Claude. Everyone on your team gets their own account — new accounts start on the Free plan.
That’s by design: a period outside the data’s coverage, a rate the data can’t support, or a place name it can’t resolve uniquely comes back as a stated refusal with the reason. Ask “What can I ask?” to see what’s on your plan.
In Claude, ask “What can I ask?” — you’ll get a guided tour of what the data covers on your plan right now.

Ready when you are.

Copy the link, add it in Claude, and ask your first real question.
